The English Circle

Joining the WIC was such a story for me. I had spent months just to get to know what I would face once I join the club. Most of the members are elderly ladies. To be honest, it made me hesitate at the first place. I was just not sure whether I could mingle with these ladies.

Time went by and I got several occassions to mingle with them. And everything went even better than I expected. They talk a lot about their lifes, their experiences, the mistakes they have made when they were young, what they have learnt from those mistakes, their regrets…all things that I would never know if I did not get any chance to mingle with them. I enjoy hanging around with these nice elderly ladies. I learn many things from them, mostly about life. I thought if I could learn so many things from other’s life experience, then I do not need to make the same mistake in my life. This thought would encourage me to use the time in my life more effectively, more meaningfully, and I do hope, more wisely.

Talking about these ladies, I can not tell other than that they are so nice, smart, and fun to be with. I play bridge with them, attend the English circle, and taught them some French. All of the circles are nice and fun, but the one attracts me the most is the English circle. Joining this circle was definitely another story for me.

There are so many good laughs in this circle. One of my friends has told me that having fun is when you can share some good laughs with someone. And I definitely have those good laughs whenever I come to the English circle. We share the bad times and the good times that happened to each member. I felt sad when I heard our coordinator’s beautiful lovely dog Toutou got dead from pregnancy. In other time, I would also felt happy for one of my fellow circle members when she told us that her son just got a scholarship to continue his study in Singapore. It is always good to have someone to share with. As I have learnt from this circle, “Share grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled”.

In short, I would say this circle is such an encouraging circle to join, from where you can learn many things and share some good laughs. Many other WIC’s members might say it is the Eating circle instead of the English circle, considering there is always so many food served during the meeting. But for me, I would always call it the FUN English circle.
